Snooker

Snooker is a kind of sport that consist of a tapering rod which is used to strike a cue ball in a pool which is also known as the billiardson. The table is usually green in color and rectangular in shape with pockets on its four corners. Most of the tables have the dimension of 12 ft × 6 ft. Snooker is said to be a popular billiard game across the globe.

Usually the game of snooker is played with fifteen object balls that do not bear any numbers and often bright red in color. There are six object balls of different colors for example yellow, pink, blue, black and brown. Lastly there is the cue ball which is white in color. The aim of snooker is to shoot the balls into the pocket following the rules of the game and to score more points than his or her opponent. The point values for object balls are from one to seven for red, yellow, green, brown, blue, pink and black respectively.

The game of Snooker starts with the cue ball which is placed at the centre of the table .The players take turn to hit the ball. The person who takes the first chance is known as the striker and continues to play until s/he fails to strike the balls into the pockets. If the first player stroke the ball into the pocket, he will get another chance to hit the colored balls and then a red ball in a sequence until he misses to hit his target. Then, the turn goes to the other player. If any of the player's hit it is a foul. Then his opponent gets the penalty points.
The game of snooker is carried on till all the red balls on the table are inside the pocket. Till the time the red balls on the table are there, the colored balls are placed in their original position on the table. If all the red balls on the table are thrown inside the pocket, the players have to go from the lowest colored ball to the highest value ones. At this situation the colored balls a pockets. The player scores the highest number of points is declared the winner.

It is one of the traditional games which has been played through centuries. This game is also played at international levels. There are snooker tournaments held. Some also play it as a hobby game It is a very relaxing game. You can often find people playing this game at clubs and recreation centers.
