For prevention of the glazed wares, a small portion of it is left unglazed so that it does not stick to the kiln while firing. After firing of the whole object, the left over portion is also glazed.

There are some special methods of glazing which are carried at the kiln. One such technique is salt-glazing, in which common salt is put into the kiln to produce textures like orange peel.
Sometimes chemical like sulphur is also used on the surface of the glaze wares in the kiln. In the kilns made up of wood, the ash produced from the fuel can be used to produce ash-glazing on the surface of the glazed ceramic pottery.

From the ancient times, the technology and applications of ceramics has rapidly increased. The glazed ceramic pottery has made a great impact in the progress of human civilization. Some of the glazed ceramic pottery are categorized as fine art, while others fall under the category of the decorative pieces, industrial and applied arts.

The early traces of glazed ceramic pottery have been found in China, Greece, Rome, Persia and various other cultures.
