India's miniature artists are recognizable for their emphasis on natural and realist themes. Indian technique of "layering" perspectives to make a sense of space is mention worthy. Evidence of early miniature figure painting is found in the Mughal period. These earliest miniature painting those were found in India show a mingling of Hellenistic and Sassanian influences, with Greek and Arabic lettering appearing side by side. The Hellenistic figures are created in a very natural way. For example, the folds of their clothing in the paintings are carefully modeled, often depicted from the side or in three-quarter view. These female figures in Miniature painting are posed frontally, in the Sassanian manner. The style of miniature painting are characterized by the bright colors, with red and bright blue predominating the pictures.



In the middle of the 10th century a new influence on miniature painting is shown. This influence came with the Fatimids, a family of Persian origin. These Moslem artists started creating miniature paintings in brilliant colors, sometimes against backgrounds of gold. These artists favored Naturalistic treatment of animals along with an elaboration of intricate design.
