Jewelry is a type of adornment worn on the various parts of the body. It is also referred as ornament. There are various kinds of jewelry and each have different names for the part of the body it is adorned. For instance, jewelry that adorns the neckline is known as necklace, for the arm it is amulet, for the wrist it is bracelet. Similarly there are ear rings, nose pins, nose rings, rings, chains, hair pins, anklets and many other head gears. Jewelry is meant for both men and women. The trend of wearing jewelry started from the very early days. There are various reasons for wearing jewelry. In the earlier days, the adornments were worn in order to display status and also for other symbolic reasons.
Jewelry today is made of various kind of precious metals like gold, silver, platinum, steel and other metals. They are also made of precious and semi precious stones. There are various ways of crafting jewelry and the craft differs from region to region across the globe. The crafting of jewelry depends a lot on the culture of the country. In the earlier days when there were no precious metals or materials and so jewelry was made out of bones, animal teeth, beads, stones, other parts of the animal. As precious metals were discovered designs were made on them and made into jewelry. Many intricate designs were then crafted and made into exquisite ornaments.
African Jewelry was the most advanced form of jewelry crafting all across the globe. The Egyptians were master craftsmen who created jewelry out of precious and semi precious stones on the precious metal. There were jewelry which were worn by tribal made of natural materials like wood, stones, beads and animal parts. These tribal jewelry are very colorful and are worn on all parts of the body. Chinese jewelry is made mostly with silver. Gold too is used along with precious stones and glass. Jade remains the favorite stones used by Chinese in their jewelry.

Spanish jewelry uses precious stones like diamonds to make very imposing designs.
